STAN TËRG

From the beginning of mining operations, and later with the aim of accommodating workers and its staff, the English company “Trepça Mines Limited” began to establish new settlements – English colonies, in the peripheral area of Mitrovica: in Stan Tërg, Zveçan, and the First Tunnel.

Stan Tërg is located 9 km east of the city of Mitrovica. It is a settlement with 45 housing units in the English style for the managerial staff, 64 for workers’ families, and 21 housing units for single workers, where around 500 people could be accommodated. A school, ambulance services, library, cinema, sports and recreation facilities such as tennis courts, a pool (which for a long time was the first and only pool in Kosovo), hiking trails, and others were built, giving Stan Tërg the appearance of a typical English town.

ZVEÇAN

The town of Zveçan is located near Mitrovica.

As an integral part of the mining landscape, Zveçan witnessed the establishment of English colonies by the “Trepça Mines Limited” company, contributing to the growth of residential areas and infrastructure. The town is a mosaic of cultural influences, with a mix of architectural styles reflecting both its historical roots and more modern developments.

Zveçan’s landscape is marked by a combination of residential and industrial elements. The presence of housing complexes catering to both managerial staff and workers’ families contributes to a diverse and dynamic community. The town’s layout is thoughtfully designed, encompassing amenities such as schools, ambulance services, libraries, and sports facilities, including tennis courts and a notable pool—once the first and only of its kind in Kosovo.

Beyond its industrial character, Zveçan offers a picturesque setting, with natural surroundings that invite residents and visitors alike to explore. The integration of hiking trails and recreational spaces complements the town’s charm, making it an appealing destination for those seeking a balance between work and leisure.
